Patients? Clients?

Although the dental profession refers to the public, whom it treats, as “patients”, the dental hygiene profession uses the term “clients”.

Students are provided with instruments and instructed in their use during the first of their three semester courses. Practical use of the instruments, under close supervision of the clinical teaching staff, is first performed on artificial heads which contain artificial teeth and gingivae (gums). Following successful completion of these efforts, students then perform treatment on each other, again under close supervision.

Beginning in semester 2, students are now sufficiently trained to perform dental hygiene treatment on the public. Although students are responsible for obtaining their own clients, nevertheless Regency does advertise to advise the public of this opportunity to receive dental hygiene care at a very modest fee of $20.00. The clients are requested to provide input regarding their view of the treatment which they receive. We are most pleased to note the very positive feedback we have received to date. It is a credit to our staff and our instructors.
