Admission Requirements

1) Interview
An interview is the first formal step in the admission process. Currently all applicants are required to visit the school for an individual information session and tour of the facility, which both form a small portion of the interview. The evaluation of your candidacy will be assessed most directly from your in-depth interview with the Communications Director.

2) RDHA Entrance Exam ($125 cash only fee)

Following the interview, you will be invited to demonstrate your knowledge and preparedness by completing the entrance exam. While most candidates complete the exam immediately following the interview, others choose to return to complete at a later date.

The following subjects are covered on the exam:

  • English (Reading Comprehension)
  • Mathematics (Computation and Concepts/Applications)
  • Cognitive Skills (Sequences and Verbal Reasoning)
  • Biology (Grade 11 level)
  • Chemistry (Grade 11 level)
  • Physics (Grade 11 level)

NOTE: The entrance exam is waived for internationally trained Dentists provided equivalency documentation is provided with application.

3) Official Secondary School Transcript

The following subjects are required:

  • Biology (Grade 11 minimum)
  • Chemistry or Physics (Grade 11 minimum)
  • English (Grade 12)
  • Mathematics (Advanced level preferred but not required)

All out-of-country secondary school transcripts require an equivalency review.

4) Post-Secondary Documentation (if applicable)

i.e. Transcripts, Grade Reports, Diplomas, Certificates, etc.
(Note: University degrees will be considered an asset and be valued as such in the selection process)

5) Reference Letter(s)
We accept reference letters from teachers, employers, or family friends who have had an opportunity to observe your work ethic, study habits, and/or response when faced with challenges.

6) Resume
Please ensure your resume reflects any paid work, extra-curricular activities, volunteer work, and education.

7) 200-word essay
The essay topic will be provided during the interview. You will be given 48 hours to write and submit your essay.


Post-Acceptance Requirements

Candidates who are offered acceptance to Regency Dental Hygiene Academy will be expected to provide the following documents:

  • Dentist’s Note (evaluation of current oral health)
  • Physician’s Note (proving current immunization status against TB, Hepatitis B, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella)
  • Evidence of First-Aid and CPR certification or evidence that training in both is in progress

(Note that templates for these required documents will be provided with the successful candidate’s acceptance package.)


English Proficiency

  • Proficiency in English is necessary since all courses are taught in English. As such, strong written and verbal skills in English are required to successfully complete the dental hygiene course.
  • It should be noted that the National Dental Hygiene Certication Examination is offered only in English and French. One must successfully complete this examination in order to be eligible to practise as a dental hygienist in Canada.


Mature Student Status

Mature applicants are those who are 21 or older and who may or may not have earned their Canadian highschool diploma. Experience (academic and otherwise) will be considered an asset for the mature student.

The Admissions Committee will review your experience in the health care field and professional references to determine suitability. The committee may place less weight on your academic record where time may have passed.

  • You are required to bring photo identification to both the interview and test.
  • You may provide additional relevant documentation as you wish.

    Please be aware dental hygiene is a physically demanding profession which may exacerbate any hand, wrist, back, neck, or shoulder problems you may be experiencing. Should you suffer from sensitive skin and conditions such as sensitivity to latex or other products, you may be affected by some materials used in dental care.
